Forcible Intraarterial Injection of a Nonadhesive Liquid Embolic Agent under Microballoon Occlusion: Experimental Study in Swine Liver
Conclusions: Transcatheter embolization by forcible intraarterial injection of an EVAL/ethanol mixture under microballoon occlusion was feasible and achieved the simultaneous embolization of hepatic artery, portal vein, and sinusoids in swine liver, resulting in complete necrosis of the segment that received embolization.

Swine flu: lessons we need to learn from our global experience.
Authors: Collignon P Abstract There are important lessons to be learnt from the recent 'Swine Flu' pandemic. Before we call it a pandemic, we need to have appropriate trigger points that involve not only the spread of the virus but also its level of virulence. This was not done for H1N1 (swine flu). We need to ensure that we improve the techniques used in trying to decrease the spread of infection-both in the community and within our hospitals. This means improved infection control and hygiene, and the use of masks, alcohol hand rubs and so on. We also need to have a different approach to vaccines. Effective vaccin...

Alcohol and the Heart: A Proteomics Analysis of Pericardium and Myocardium in a Swine Model of Myocardial Ischemia.
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that daily moderate alcohol consumption affects numerous pathways that contribute to cardioprotection, including cardiac remodeling, metabolism, and cell death. Our findings reveal the biosignature of myocardial and pericardial protein expression in the setting of chronic myocardial ischemia and daily moderate alcohol consumption. Alcoholic consumption behavior and death due to swine flu
Publication date: Available online 19 August 2015 Source:Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis Author(s): Viroj Wiwanitkit Swine flu is still an important public health consideration. This respiratory infection can cause severe illness and death in cases with underlying disease. Alcoholic consumption behavior is an important underlying disease that is widely discussed for its clinical correlation with the disease severity in swine flu. In this brief review, the author summarizes and discusses alcoholic consumption behavior and death due to swine flu.

Bariatric Arterial Embolization with Non-spherical Polyvinyl Alcohol Particles for Ghrelin Suppression in a Swine Model
ConclusionBAE with PVA particles can transiently suppress ghrelin levels in embolized animals, but levels are not significantly different compared to controls. Stomach ulcerations were identified in 60% of the embolized animals.

Quantification and 3D Localization of Magnetically Navigated Superparamagnetic Particles Using MRI in Phantom and Swine Chemoembolization Models
Conclusion and Significance: MDEBs were able to be steered into desired body regions and then localized using 3D VIBE sequences. The resulting volume relationship was linear, robust, and allowed for quantitative analysis of the MDEB distribution.

Mechanism for reduced pericardial adhesion formation in hypercholesterolemic swine supplemented with alcohol BASIC SCIENCE
CONCLUSIONS In the SDS-soluble lysate fraction, likely representing the transmembrane/cell–extracellular matrix (ECM), a significant increase in RAFTK and caspase 3 expression was seen only in the vodka-treated animals, which may explain why this group demonstrated significantly fewer pericardial adhesions. Caspase expression/signalling was not increased in the more soluble myocardial lysate, suggesting that the increased apoptotic signalling was specific to the epicardial–ECM.

Staging Liver Fibrosis by Fibroblast Activation Protein Inhibitor PET in a Human-Sized Swine Model
Conclusion: The strong correlation between liver 68Ga-FAPI uptake and the histologic stage of liver fibrosis suggests that 68Ga-FAPI PET can play an impactful role in noninvasive staging of liver fibrosis, pending validation in patients.

Are cannabis prevalence estimates comparable across countries and regions? A cross-cultural validation using search engine query data
Conclusion: Although GSI showed weaker associations with cannabis use than perceived availability, the findings underline the external validity and usefulness of search engine query data as external criteria. The findings suggest an acceptable relative comparability of national (provincial) prevalence estimates of cannabis use that are based on a common survey methodology. Search engine query data are a too weak indicator to base prevalence estimations on this source only, but in combination with other sources (waste water analysis, sales of cigarette paper) they may provide satisfactory estimates.

Visual search for feature conjunctions: an fMRI study comparing alcohol-related neurodevelopmental disorder (ARND) to ADHD
Conclusions: Limited activation patterns in ARND suggest problems in information processing along the ventral frontoparietal attention pathway. Poor integrity of the ILF, which connects the functional components of the ventral attention network, in ARND subjects may contribute to the attention deficits characteristic of the disorder.

Attentional capture by alcohol-related stimuli may be activated involuntarily by top-down search goals
AbstractPrevious research has found that the attention of social drinkers is preferentially oriented towards alcohol-related stimuli (attentional capture). This is argued to play a role in escalating craving for alcohol that can result in hazardous drinking. According to incentive theories of drug addiction, the stimuli associated with the drug reward acquire learned incentive salience and grab attention. However, it is not clear whether the mechanism by which this bias is created is a voluntary or an automatic one, although some evidence suggests a stimulus-driven mechanism. Here, we test for the first time whether this a...

Google search data as a novel adjunct to patient and public involvement in rheumatology research
AbstractPatient and public involvement is essential in the design and implementation of research studies to ensure research remains relevant and in line with public priorities. Public views on a given area of research may be sought via platforms such as focus groups or surveys. Here, we present the use of an openly available Google search data query tool, which may be used alongside traditional forms of patient and public involvement in research to highlight public perceptions and priorities. We used an online search query tool ( “AnswerThePublic.com”) to explore public Google searches relating to “arthritis,” and ...
